Hannah Wertz, PhD
I am a licensed psychologist with a doctoral degree from Fordham University's counseling psychology program. I treat a broad range of psychiatric issues with a specialization in trauma-related mental health concerns and substance abuse. I completed my APA-accredited internship at the Manhattan VA, where I worked with a diverse population of adult veterans through a variety of modalities, including psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at NYU’s Counseling and Wellness Services, where I worked with undergraduate and graduate students using short-term integrative psychotherapy. I have also received training at NYU's Military Family Clinic, The Addiction Institute of New York, Lincoln Hospital, Pace University's College Counseling Center, Neuropsychology Associates, and in Bronx public schools.
I work primarily from a psychodynamic and attachment- based perspective but have experience with a wide variety of treatment approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT for Insomnia, Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and empirically validated treatments for PTSD such as Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy. My focus is on building a supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic space in which we can investigate how early relationship models may inform current interpersonal patterns, with the goal of helping you to relate to others with greater flexibility and choice. I strive to cultivate a safe environment in which clients can more fully engage with their emotional experience and begin to revise their internal dialogue and personal narrative. I also work creatively to integrate skills building techniques for symptom reduction based on individual client needs. My treatment is informed by close consideration of socioeconomic, cultural, political, community, and health dimensions that may be impacting your current concerns.
Areas of Expertise
Insurance & Fees
I am an in-network provider for Wellfleet, NYU’s student health insurance, and Aetna. Clients using insurance will be responsible for their copay at the time of session.
I qualify as an out-of-network provider for most insurance plans that provide out-of-network coverage for mental health treatment. For clients interested in utilizing out-of-network benefits, we will work to find a mutually agreed upon fee prior to our initial consultation. I am happy to assist potential clients in learning more about their benefits and encourage you to reach out by phone or e-mail with any questions.
